Garrett Edge Digger
« on: July 23, 2015, 22:13 »
Hi All,

This item is a real disappointment. First one I had lasted 2 hunts, took it back because the end of the tool had started to push through the end of the grip. The second one bent at the handle on the first hunt and now the handle is pushing through again. I went back to the shop to complain, saying they aren't worth the $65 I payed for it. It's basically a cheap $10 tool(Made in China) My plan is to weld bracing across the right angle, but i'm a little peeved I have to. Have I just had a bad run, or is this a common issue?

Cheers
Justa

My issue is though,  the price is the same as it once was. Please let me know when they're available.

I think we tried to straighten Kens digger at one of the Token hunts. They used to be offered for monthly prizes here but they were changed to gift vouchers.  Hard to beat the Lesche. It will be interesting to see what Anger Management comes up with.

You can't beat Predator Tools, I've had my digger (Model 85) for over 5 years with no issues at all (and more recently the Little Eagle).  Just needs an occasional sharpen.

Great service from this company and good value for money on all their tools.

Hi all
Again, sorry to hijack / spam ?

Here are some pic's of the construction, I have taken - the handle off to show the detail. You can also see the size as have a USB as ref and the strengthing fold in the blade.

And looking at Approx $70 Au plus postage = Less than $80 for something supported in Au (not that it should ever need support) and more than suitable to much of our tough conditions.

Oh and they also come in L/H or R/H - just for a bit of value added service.

L/H get charges an extra $100 and they are also Gluten Free :-)

PS. Poor joke in second line; but feeling pissed as Au post is stuffing up on delivery times. And some customers are getting pissed off. SORRY...

Heavy duty SS..   Am guessing 316 but could be 314   2.5mm thick

The neat bit is the rib...  if you bend it = your the hulk.

You should start another thread re your diggers.  I might be interested in one. Sorry justa a fisho, i have used the garrets and find them OK in soft ground only (they will not ding a coin like a Leshe).  I ended up putting a bicycle handle on mine as the grip pushed through after a couple of digs.

Predator tools for me...

Predator M85 on the left and Little Eagle on the right, i dont leave home without them, my most used digging tools. Top tools that sure dont look as new now as they did 4 yrs ago but they are still going without any problems at all and boy have they done a lot of digging..

Had mine about two years.  The grip has been the only issue but easy to fix.
1. Motorcycle grips fit the handle , bar end caps also fit. The photo shown was using an old grip I had.  Spray handle with hair spray , side correct length grip on and let it set.
2. Tonight I wrapped the handle in heavy duty para cord (search youtube for tutorial). It feels great and should out last the digger.

Here is a pic of the motorcycle bar end cap , it's an old one from my bike.  I used some rubber hose for a snug fit and it's tightened up by using an alan key. It has never moved in a year.

My Garrett has been retired in favour of a Lesche.
The Garrett was poo IMHO.  The end punched out of the handle grip, the blade is too think and soft, needed contant sharpening and the serrations did bugger all really.
Love the Lesche, along with my Little Eagle spade! :)
