Buying from the US
« on: October 17, 2016, 22:59 »
Been after a new Cleansweep coil for a while now and decided to source one direct from the US as Tesoro stock availability in Australia is a shambles. As you know Tesoro will not allow US dealers to ship their product out of America (another joke). So despite the bad online reviews I decided to give Australia Post's Shopmate a chance. Basically Shopmate gives you an account and address in the US - a warehouse in Oregon in my case - where you can have your goodies delivered.
I was fearing the worst, but all went very smoothly. Shopmate kept me informed the whole way, from when the package arrived at their warehouse, went it left, when it arrived in Oz, when it was to be delivered, and when it was delivered. Coil arrived without a hitch and was well packed. Postage rates were reasonable at AU$37.50. Quite impressed and will use again.

Not so impressed with US dealers. I emailed 5 respected dealers in total to enquire re availability and only one had the decency to reply.

I have a cleansweep coil that I have used quite a bit on my Cortes.  Got very good ground coverage, but sure is heavy.  I believe the newer ones are a lot lighter, I would like to know the weight of your coil when it arrives, if you don't mind.  I used to use a bungie cord with mine to ease the weight, it did help a lot.

I purchased a couple of Garrett 250's as gifts last xmas. The American dealer sold direct to Oz (ebay) but had to say the box was damaged. New/Second hand. No damage and not much money.

The dealer was metaldetector.com, very easy to deal with and postage was free within the US.

Mike33, the new coil weighs about 0.7kg. The HOT Cleansweep currently on my Cibola is even lighter (but Tesoro don't make them anymore :'(). I onced owned the older, heavier version and you're right it was like swinging a brick. Very unbalanced.

I might add that delivery time from placing the order and receiving it was just over 2 weeks.

I did the same thing buying a garret carrot, I was told that it couldn't be shipped out of the US. Shopmate shipping plus a lesche digging tool and set of $30 headphones into oz for the same price as the Propointer AT sold in Australia. Arrived in a week easy as.
