Freaked me out at 4am.....
« on: February 09, 2017, 18:04 »
Hi Folks,
As my Endless renovation continues I currently use the outside laundry as the kitchen.
I went out this morning to make my coffee at about 4am and thought what the hell is that???
Needless to say the 2 minutes I had to wait for my cup in the microwave was a little nerve racking.
Measured out at over 160cm.
Have NO IDEA where it is?
There is a smaller one in the house roof but it is taking care of the rats as they come up from the creek due to no rain and no food around for them, they don't last long that's for sure between the snakes and the staffy. LOL
Gonna be a nervous few days doing the dishes....

That is certainly a biggie.

Must be the season for it.  Here is a recent pic of one still clothed near Bribie.

Good score Clegy. At least its smiling. LOL. If you still have it, sometimes like with a python you can see faint colour/pattern. Or you can count the belly scales cross the width on a diagonal, as the number corresponds to certain species. At  least you know its about. DB.

You can take about 20% off that length as the skin stretches during the shedding process.
When we moved into our new place 2yrs back the next day there was a 2m long skin , she is still around as well

Found the owner of the Skin last night, he/she came out and watched a bit of telly with us on the back porch.

Was there at 5am this morning but gone at 5.30?

Harmless enough.

Conditions are perfect here for it. Last Tuesday night my wife yelled out I just saw a snake go in the house as she went out the back door. I think it a tree snake. Ok not so bad.  After  an hour of searching  I concluded it was under a heavy cabinet.  I said I will lift it but it's that heavy I will have to stand right were I think the snake is. You get down low with a torch and yell if you see it.  Yep it was there I dropped the cabinet quick smart  which squashed it but the head was raised up to strike straight at me but pinned with no where to go. On inspection I realised it was a brown, looked to be either a coastal tiapan or an eastern brown! Counted the scales and she was an eastern brown .  First time I've had that in the Bay!

Good thing you tidied up that yard when you moved in Buttsy.   At the old place a few years ago(Pt Vernon) daughter and her friend were sitting against the brick wall at the front door.  They got up and had a bit of a wander around before returning to the same place and realised there was a brown snake snug against the wall where they were sitting.   Gotta keep the eyes peeled.

Seems that both the skin and the poo of pythons and most probably other snakes, when spread around the garden makes a great rat and mouse deterrent.
Think I'll be collecting any snake skins from now on. Easy to tell what they look like (got to work out what snake poo looks like and maybe collect that to) and spread it around the grounds of my property.
