75th Anniversary of Darwin bombing.
« on: February 19, 2017, 10:13 »
Today is 75th anniversary of WW2 bombing of Darwin. The largest attack on Australia, and something that brought WW2 to Australia and strengthened the nations resolve and war effort. Whilst this raid itself was unexpected and a calamity of errors in forewarning, the attack wasn't unexpected, and Darwin was set up a Naval fueling base that anticipated the fall of Singapore officially before 1929, when the Navy moved its base from Thursday island to Darwin.   NT bombed at least 64 times, but this was the largest raid. From then on Air attacks also WA, Broome, and elsewhere across northern Australia. Subsequent Submarine attacks (shelling ) on Port Gregory WA, and Sydney, NSW, as well as torpedo attacks on Sydney and torpedo/mine laying against shipping around Australia. Submarine based reconnaissance flights over Perth and Sydney. A least 2 isolated Japanese submarine based reconnaissance landings and pick ups in Top end. German subs also active.

Sad fact is that a lot of Australians don't even know that northern Australia was repeatedly bombed.  The raids were hushed up at the time to prevent panic which has really continued until today.  Great to see both the PM and Opposition Leader paying their respects and giving the few remaining veterens their due. It's taken way too long IMO.

A lot of Australians don't know what happened last week much less 75 years ago.  The thought is that a number more died that is the official total.

the populace has been successfully dumbed down. "we the people" are nothing more than the robots we fear will take our jobs. taught what to think, what to say, how to act, and that it is wrong to go against the social norm. Our for fathers would be rolling in their graves at the thought of what they died for and what we have become. The human race has successfully created hell on earth, we are a cancer on this planet.

Not all would agree with your "We".
I personally think think that the blokes running things here are better than the blokes from overseas who wanted to run the country.
