Counterfeit $2 coins
« on: July 22, 2017, 11:12 »
Hi guys,

I found something I couldn't believe while sorting out and cleaning gold coins. I had a couple of hundred coins in a bucket getting their initial hose off and a pair of $2 coins stood out as being nearly black. I picked them out and both are dated 1995, so I took them into my workshop and had a look under a microscope and they are both cast. All the details are lack crispness, there is some porosity and they are made from a different alloy.
Has anyone else seen these? For one person to find two of them there must be hundreds of thousands out there.
Would love to hear your thoughts, I'll post some pictures.

Thanks,
Jonathon

The fakes are known on this forum but I cant remember your year before.
I have picked up some goldies on the beach that have reacted very differently to 99.9% of others to the salt they have been in.
