Beginners Questions!
« on: December 12, 2011, 21:31 »
This post is directed to our newer members.

As beginners we know you will want to ask us lots of questions, we certainly did when we first got started.
Most of us here will willingly answer any of your requests, someone will have an answer.

However each month we seem to get bombarded with the same questions about digging tools, scoops, pro pointers, coin cleaning, best places to hunt, etc.

A simple search in the searchbox (upper right corner) will probably give you plenty of posts on these subjects.

Please don't stop asking for information but if it's just basic then try a search first.

Thanks,

Meggie ...

Anyone wanting to search a subject must be back on the Home page for it to work properly.

we do get a warning about some of those posts being over 120 days old. this can be a bit of off putting when you want to ask a question and that message confronts you

Don't worry about the warning jack, just post if you have something relevant to the original post and it will still be displayed and read by all.

NOTE: The member map is available to all registered members on the forum.
This can be done from your profile area at http://forum.kimbucktwo.com/index.php?action=profile;area=forumprofile

For privacy reasons, when placing a pin on the map, we recommend you only go down as far as suburb level and do not zero in on your home address.

Hi, I have been detecting for around 4 months now, I own a Xterra 305 and have been finding heaps of decimal coins. I would love to find some pre-decimals, the only problem is that I am not from QLD and don't really know and old areas to search for old coins. I have done some research, gone detecting in the areas that I have researched and have come up with nothing. Any tips would be great.

Hi Guys, I recently bought a metal detector and want to start using it, but I am not sure if I am permiited to do it in my area (Canterbury, NSW). Tried searching on this forum, but I do not see any discussions around this topic.
Questions -
How would I know if I am permitted to use metal detector in any public area/park.
Is there a permit for NSW public area? (I know about the forest permit)

Hi Gaurav, the forum has most answers, but often you have to dig.  :)
To start with, why not try around your back yard, and see what the different numbers/ sounds mean, to what you have found. There is information on how to correctly find, and remove a find, while doing minimal damage. By detecting, you have a degree of responsibility in how you leave an area after you have been there.
In regards to where you can detect, this varies state to state, council to council. Unfortunately by asking, often you just get a standard refusal. Maybe a local detector shop can point you in the right direction. Or your local library might have maps to find older, neglected areas, that no-one bothers about.
Anyway, all the best, and get used to the idea that this hobby takes lots of practice. DB.
