Need help to identify mystery 3 ring bullet
« on: April 14, 2018, 22:34 »
Hi all. Can anyone please help identify this bullet. I found it last week at a site I’ve been going to for about 8 months now that dates back to the 1800’s. It’s the only one of these I’ve found at this site or anywhere in fact. The bullet has been fired but is in good shape. It measures 25mm long. Roughly 11mm in diameter and the concave back is roughly 10mm deep.

Might be a rifled musket ball, some are called a minie ball. Best to weight it and then have a look on google for musket bullets.

A big part of detecting is being in the right place - in your head and at the site.

Ah I didn’t put the weight in. It’s 235 grains or 16.4 grams. Yeah I was thinking maybe minie ball but was unable to get any good research material from my searches. Thanks

Could be a type of minie ball but can’t find one with dimensions close to this one.

11mm is close to .44 cal, needs to be measured to the thousandth of an inch.
Definitely minnie ball bullet, these are nearly always imperial sizes.
