LESNEY toy cars and models
« on: November 22, 2012, 17:12 »
As suggested by Halfpennyhound.

This is the place to put all those lovely old LESNEY toy cars and models.  They seem to evoke a lot of nostalgia when found so it's a great idea to group them all together in this one spot.

(Other makes of old toy cars and models also accepted here ;))

Lesneys are the Matchbox cars being a series called Matchbox  ;)

Quote
Matchbox is a popular toy brand which was introduced by Lesney Products in 1953 and is now owned by Mattel, Inc. The brand was so named as the original die-cast Matchbox toys were sold in boxes similar in style and size to those in which matches were sold. Subsequently the brand would encompass a broad range of toys including larger scale die-cast models and various non die-cast lines such as plastic model kits and action figures.

During the 1980s, Matchbox started to switch to the more conventional plastic and cardboard "blister packs" that were used by other die cast toy brands such as Hot Wheels. The box style packaging was re-introduced for the collectors' market in recent years, particularly with the release of the "35th Anniversary of Superfast" series in 2004.

Funny how kids loose their toys these days?
When I was a kid we could only have maybe one or two Matchbox or Dinky toy cars and we guarded them with our life.
There was always competition between the two. I always thought that matchbox had better wheels than Dinky and I could get mine to go further in a straight line across the school quadrangle than the Dinkies. :D Going in a straight line was important 8) and anything that swerved out of line was concidered to be inferior >:(
