The finds we can't crack
« on: January 26, 2014, 10:44 »
You all know what I mean, you can go to places where there have been tonnes of the items found but do you reckon you can snag one. Well there are three that I need to conquer in 2014 which need to get off my bucket list.
1. Silver Groat
2. Chinese coin
3. Gold Ring at the beach

Love to hear from others on those frustrating items

The Groat and Ring ( which is on my bucket list)  and the rest of my bucket list

Cricket Buckle
Trench art
Sunrise Badge.

Just means I will have to go out and keep looking even if it is a bit of a chore :D
Roger

PS. The other thing on my bucket list was a Gothic Florin but I have that now.

Good post Gem. I would also love to find a groat, as well as the following:

The round 50 .cents, so relatively 'modern' yet so damn elusive.

William IV copper. Plenty of his silvers seem to crop up but I've never seen a copper on the forum.

Two Pence Cartwheel. I've been lucky enough to find 7 of the regular one pence but never seen it's bigger brother.

Both the 1787 George III shilling and sixpence. Relatively common in the colony at the time but where are they now? Surprised neither has turned up on early 1800s sites.

Well, I've said it before but it's worth saying it again. The 1944 halfpenny has eluded me for 30 years. Maybe this year is the one! (along with a William IV silver and an 1806/7 copper)

Nice thread GemQ.
I would love to find a crown or half crown.  I agree with Werewolf, a round 50 cents would be a great find.  A sovereign or half sovereign, of course.

Cheers

I'll settle for a single, humble pre-dec!  :-\

I know where they should be, but all I can find is one 1966 brownie after another!

You'd reckon there'd have to be one chunk of coinage out there made a year or two earlier!  ::) :)

I know I have high hopes but who knows . I like my chances with the shilling and rising sun but the Sovereign may be a fantasy.             Garry

I'm also still looking for that elusive round 50 cent piece, I'd also love to find a Farthing.

But the top of my list would be a platinum ring. ::)

However, I'd be happy this year to find:

my first gold ring (not a JR return job)
a sov or half sov
a cricket buckle
a 10g or better nugg.
