Fors Gold finds gold
« on: March 30, 2015, 19:35 »
Got out to Hill End for another day last Saturday, had a look around at some new spots and did ok on one of them.
On the last location of the day, the good women tells me she found a bit of gold....im thinking she found a wee bit, didn't expect it to weigh in at 2.1grams. Go the Fors gold.

The RACER did ok on the earlier spots tried, unfortunately for me, both items of interest have now been misplaced...the buckle i found im sure will turn up when we return due to it falling out of our camp kitchen after cleaning it. I know where it is.....and looking forward to getting back out there to retrieve it.
The other item i found was an early 1800s Snuff Box complete with Tobacco.?? This has simply been misplaced....very disappointing let me tell you as i looked forward to opening it.
Sh!t happens.

Good to see the gold finally finding some. I think given time to hunt the trashy areas in our Golden Triangle it would do the same here.

Looks interesting . I have seen old primer and percussion cap tins about the same size and shape also . Is there any markings that indicate snuff ?  Anyway it's in great nick , well found .

Does the tin rattle?
I wish i had my mates Nokta tonight, it would have saved some time in a junky area where i found shallow gold previously.

I wouldn't call it a rattle, sounds very much like crushed tobacco. Or possibly very fine gold.?.

The tin with unknown content weights in at 16.1grms.
I'll be opening it up soon....lol

Real exciting stuff this is , looks like it is brass , maybe a spray of WD40 or RP7 and let it soak might help .

Found the lost/misplaced buckle.....it be the one on the left, the other one was found yesty in and out of the rain showers.

Sorry, must have missed your post.
Nothing identifying it as actual sniffing tobacco, just a few pics i saw on the net. When shaken, it gives that distinct sound of finely crushed tobacco. My being a tobacco smoker am easily convinced tho. ;D It could be anthrax.? :o

The one of the left is part of a cricket buckle.  I have a complete one.  A cricket ball and bat was attached to that little hole.  What makes you think the snuff box is early 1800's?

Saw pics of the same tin on the net while looking it up....found another one the same minus the lid yesty.
If its not a 1800s snuff, im happy to be corrected as iv not been able to get the lid off the first one yet to confirm the contents.?
The location i found them in, is smaller than a house yard and is full of old timer memorabilia. It fits in with everything else found here.? Still, could be wrong.
