Competition the first!!
« on: October 28, 2016, 19:00 »
I have about 60 AMDRH Kimbuchtwo.com cloth patches. I have listed them in my store for $4 each and postage is $1. Revenue goes back into these type of things to hopefully get better prizes.

But I want to give a few away to members straight away. I got these from Colin who had them printed some time ago.

So in order to win one for yourself I need good ideas for competitions that will be Fun and that can be easily run without the need to be a private investigator to verify the results.

As many Know I often say "I have faith in the human race" and take people for their word until they prove otherwise, so the comps don't have to be cheat proof, just fun and maybe a little different. Preferably No nudity, Have to draw a line somewhere.....But if it is truly awesome we will give it a go.

Best suggestions get a patch mailed to you.

Bad suggestions will probably get one too. LOL Limit to 5 patches in this giveaway, Admin decision is final, Happy to debate the crap out of the result if you want too or don't agree with it.

So over to you, what are a few simple ideas for competitions
  • That would be fun
  • That you would participate in
  • That are pretty straightforward
  • That don't really rely on detecting skill rather participation in our hobby.
Thanks all, Look forward to awarding the first few patches.

Comp Closes on Friday 4th November at 6pm. Winners announced saturday the 5th at 9am.

I saw one of the detector companies do a "Find Bingo"

You list a bunch of random relics/coins that members have to find in a grid.  The first to be able to post all of them wins bingo (and the patch)

All the above are good ideas. The ugliest/weirdest would be funny. I remember a few years back when a member posted a certain type of ring he found on a particular beach in Sydney (the what is this section)  and commented why is it so large, must have been a big finger  :o

I think the oldest and youngest members should get a patch?

Pass the Buck.

A modern coin type and year is posted, then the countdown (3 or 4 days) begins for somebody to post a picture of the coin and year from a recent find. They then announce a coin type and year and the count down begins again.  If the deadline passes, the last poster that passed the buck wins.

Might be able to play with pre-decs and moderns, there's enough people finding all on a regular basis.

If somebody announces 1930 Penny they get sin-binned.   >:D

From the one site, the largest spread of dates.  Run over a month, the finds from one site (or just over the month) that vary the most, must have readable dates. For example a 1880 penny and a 1980 50c would be 100 years.

Live dig bingo.

Film a live dig, showing the target ID on the detector and the tone coming from the speaker, maybe commentary as to how deep the target should be.
Put the first part of the video up on youtube with the video ending just before the dig.
Open up the forum for guesses as to what the target actually is.
If the target is guessed correctly, put up part 2 of the video showing the dig.

Should be done with a different detector each time  the comp is run, or sweep multiple detectors over the one target so that there isn't a clear advantage for a certain detector owners.

Also a good way to promote the forum on youtube, viewers need to join the forum in order to enter the comp.

Re the photo bombing. I took a few car pictures at an event today, a lot of heads will have to be cropped from the edge of shots. Not much funny stuff happens gold detecting unless you think digging a deep hole to find rubbish at the bottom is funny. The Darkside team at the Wedderburn Token hunt gets up to some funny stuff.
