Any ideas
« on: October 21, 2017, 15:17 »
Found same 1850s courthouse former site in SE Qld. I think it's brass.  The pincers may be separated with a small amount of force and spring closed. I feel like I should know what it is but can't bring to mind.  Any help is appreciated.

Most likely the reason it was tossed - missing middle bit.

Thanks for the ID John-au!  Nothing like I imagined.   Must have been rough on the old mouth and teeth.

Hi
No the missing bit is inserted between the two prongs so it faces towards the round piece by the looks of it.

No, the missing bit is anchored to the round part and sits between the tongs. the long parts sit between the lips and the middle bit is plucked.....I purchased one after digging one. They are not forgiving on the mouth at all
