[MEMORABLE] The Australian Detectorist Recovered Cricket Buckles Book
« on: October 22, 2017, 16:35 »
Afternoon all!,
~8 months ago, I decided to collect all the cricket buckle pictures I could find on the internet and create a book for myself.
I then decided to share this resource.  Its consumed most of my spare time and a lot of late nights

Edit..

Well, version 2 is finally finished: https://goo.gl/G3fvUD

I've received great support from Detectorists everywhere, who's finds have contributed to version 2.
Your updated/extra/new images have completed the picture for numerous cricket buckles for this release - Thank-you!

This version has had a big tidy up. In summary:
- 557 Cricket Buckles, 79 Non-Cricket Buckles (23 Nautical, 31 Sporting, 25 Other)
- Re-Worked all of Section 2.
  - Expanded the cricket buckle history section. The first registered cricket buckle listed in the UK National Archives records is by Edwin Ade, dated 1854 Jan 11.
  - Added a section on cleaning/fixing cricket buckles
  - Added a lot more current model detectors to "2.8 What is the TID?" thanks to Gaby/Justin at Lost Treasures - Brisbane, and also got the Equinox 800 listed thanks to Corey at Miners Den - Brisbane.
  - As of 2018-03-06, 123 unique wording or phrases combinations have been identified on the cricket buckles
- Re-ordered buckles in a more logical order

Other interesting things I found:
- A cricket buckle with a horse on it 5.20.74
- Two unique 3-piece buckle designs 5.20.76, 5.24.4
- 6.1.17 Buckle related to 2nd Opium War
- 6.3.25 Buckle related to Crimean War

I hope you enjoy viewing version 2!

Damn good effort Brian..was just admiring today the 3 that my brother scored on a recent trip and your post popped up.  I've always thought a good feature on our forum would be a collection of finds pics by category...a bit like google images..eg..punch in buttons and all pics come up of members button finds..cheers..Dave

As a good mate of Brian's I've been chatting to him about this as he has been producing it. It never ceases to amaze me of the sheer number of buckle variants there are, Something that doesn't seem to have been documented at all during production(or if it was does not seem to be available). As I see it, this is the only resource book available anywhere in the world of this type. Well done mate.

Very well done Brian. I might make some decent pictures of the buckles I still have as some of those of mine are not the best quality.  This will be a great resource and hopefully put into hard print someday.

I am going to try and find who organised the bottle show near Maryborough in 2010. The pictures with my name on them were only happy snaps through a glass display cabinet. I may be able to find the owner and get some good shots of the buckles.

Thanks Rwork, that was an amazing collection you photographed back in 2010. Managed to get 35+ new designs out of your photos , plus helped to compete the puzzle on a few other buckles.

Thanks, would be great to get some better shots from your collection.
As you've read, I'm after as much info about any cricket buckle I can get (re: 'Can you help").
Don't worry about cropping/resizing  the photos, I can do that, just bombard me at  ausdrcb@gmail.com

Very well done Brian. I might make some decent pictures of the buckles I still have as some of those of mine are not the best quality.  This will be a great resource and hopefully put into hard print someday.
