Party Trick - Coin Cleaning
« on: December 12, 2017, 17:06 »
Before I start:  Yes, I know, NEVER clean coins lest you de-value them.

BUT, if you just want to clean your coins for display and not for sale:

First, I wash them in soapy water - Pic 1
Second, rub vigorously with an eraser.  Pic 2
Third, scribble over the coin with an ordinary lead (Graphite) pencil.  Then use the eraser again.
Lots of elbow grease leaves you with pic 3.  (The photo doesn't do it justice but, you end up with a really nice lustre.)
Obviously, you need a coin in reasonable condition to begin with but, this method does not scratch the coin and leaves it in it's found state - only clean and shiny.
