world war one or two british infantry general service button
« Reply #26 on: March 28, 2012, 01:31 »

was worn in both world wars by british general service infantry.
bit hard to figure which war its from for me, found surrounded by 5 coins from 1920s and 1 from 1914, BUT walk 3 metres away and you find 1942 and 1943 halfpenny with this in the area

gets better another few feet away you find two more buttons

so i guessing they all ww2 issue, the area housed australian ww2 army (not airforce) in a hospital their, the airforce was 2km away in town. so ponder why a airmen or woman was at the hospital and near the only dam (swimming hole) in the town.

Hello All. I found this badge on the beach in Adelaide. It has a silver mark on the rear (see photo) and I believe it may be from the Methodist Ladies College??? Anyone have any ideas as to the date, etc? Many thanks.

Great stuff guys;

Tinpan love those old two piece buttons. A whole lot of history there. How many one piece underwear buttons for each two piece found? Just curious.
Excellent relics whatever the provenence.

Found this one on an old school site (opened 1890's).
haven't found any info on it yet....

from 1st glance they look like imperial german navy pre or ww 1.  will try and find it for you.  the crown and eagle look imperial german.  the anchor would be navy.  though german imperial eagles had downward facing wings.  could be polish?  imperial russian would be 2 heads.

could you let me know if there is any writing on the back?  might give a big clue.

just might have found something - italian navy - see pic

Hi - not an expert but it also looks like a modern civilian button that can be found on balzers , jumpers, etc.

Hoping for a positive ID on this on, unable to find anything which looks exactly like it.
I have emailed some army museums in the UK, they might have some info.

as mentioned earlier i dont feel that it is offical issue.  looks handmade instead of machine made like a normal issued badge.  being handmade it is more special and could be valuable.

The more I look at it the more I start to agree, just had an opinion from a museum in the UK that it is a sweetheart brooch.
