11x8.5"DD is generally deeper on open ground than 8.5"DD where both coils can get close to and touch the surface to be scanned.
8.5"DD is more convenient when there is obstacles to be negotiated below or around.
I've got both above coils and use them as where indicated, am on the lookout for 12x9" Proformance eccentric searchcoil.

Youtube tests are watchable and an indication what a detector/coil combination can do in that particular environment, do same test in another environment and result will likely be different.

I'm surprised of the depth some VLF detectors can actually detect a target on wet ocean beach, that be the reason why a good scoop with a long strong handle is needed.

Thanks again Ivanll , I am still thinking about getting a 5x8 coil for the pro , even though I am considering getting a Etrac or Equinox next year . I am wondering if there has been a comparison  test on the 5x8 garrett & Mars MD Sniper coil , as I have the mars but if the 5x8 is no better than it , I would be wasting my time getting it hey ,Gazza

If the MARS Sniper coil is the 10x6" DD then stick with it, I  see no advantage in getting the Garrett 8x5" DD.
I you were up this way you could try mine ( freight cost is a killer, like waste of money) must be someone down your way with an AT 8x5"DD coil for lend.
