David Watters from Miners Den has said that he will give us  prizes for a Coin of the year comp and Find of the year.
General opinion seems to be to have the entries taken from the winners of each monthly comp. After the winners are chosen for Dec we would then have 12  to choose from in each of the two sections.
Miners Den will organise the freight to the winner.I guess the prize would be sent from the closest branch owned by David.
Winners would be chosen using a Poll as we do for the monthly comps.

Any comments ?
Do we add other entries found and shown but not entered in the monthly comps ?
If we get equal votes on some entries would we extend the comp after the closing time or start another poll for a week.

Sounds like a great offer. All we need is starting dates and how long the poll is for

Thank you David for your Generosity ;)

I guess Dec comps are sorted out by mid Jan and polls would run the same lenght of time as the monthly ones unless the members feel that it should be open longer.

not a bad idea but i made a point in an earlier post.  by only taking the winners from each month you might be leaving out others who did not submit nice finds in the monthly comps for whatever reason.   i could have submitted some finds but did not to allow others a chance to win the monthly comps as i won both last year.  i feel several other forum members with some decent finds withheld for the same reasaon.

maybe take all the monthly winners by default and then open it for any other entries.  i dont think you will have an avalanche of entries personally.  we cant even get over 70 to vote at any one time.

Sounds Good in Theory Jarhead but what you have to remember is that if we take the 12 Monthly winners and they are joined by say 25 others we have a list of 37. Say as usual only 50 - 70 vote we could have a 10 way tie with each member having the same amount of votes. Many vote for the member not the item plus many vote for their own

Buy not entering for the COTM, FOTM that is a personal decision,  It may be a good find but its still upto us.

What ever the decision it needs to be fair to everyone, noobies, country folk and city folk, juniors

Agree a bit with JH, we have to also remember that voting has also only been available to all members for COTM for a short while (previously only mods - not that I'm having a go at our impectable judgement ;D). Maybe its a coin or find that has been posted during the year as well as the top 12 winners, people have a fair idea  of what may be worthy on putting in for COY. For example people like Detrack has found 10 or so sovs this year, most of which have not been put up in COTM, he probably should have the opportunity to select his best one for the year.

David owns what was previously known as Trackline and now as Bendigo Gold. He also owns the Miners Den store in Melbourne and Sydney. I think he has a store in Qld somewhere,i remember one of the gold prospector members putting up some gold pictures and saying that he worked there. Was it Cory ?
ghostbat was one of the members who had asked earlier on about starting a yearly comp. Trevor P and boot tack had offered some gold but it is now going to the Jan comp.

I think that the 12 monthly winners are the only ones that get a shot at the yearly prize. I agree with Allimo on the timing.

Yes,  give it to me, for what I am just about to find.  Think of the prize as an investment into the future actions of myself.

If the mod's decide that the COY / FOY is to be awarded at the end of the year, Dec. 2012 , Im happy to have the 12 x monthly COTM & FOTM as the " only " nominees for the yearly award.
Im sure that some of the best finds this year may not have even been entered in the monthly
award from when they were found , but if the finder didnt nominate them , Im thinking they cant
  be considered...?

What about a quick poll on who gets in the FOY and COY.

12 monthly winners only in both comps.

OR
Monthly comp winners plus entries taken Only from finds shown during the year.

Or ?

The second choice shown means some members would get two entries in each comp.

Hi all many great finds posted over the last year , Lots of members who have had a major input into forum. Most have not entered the monthly comps. Seems one only has to make 5 posts wins the monthly comp and then gets chance in the yearly find comp.  To be fair. open to all members

I have run a poll on the 2012, coin of the year and find of the year comps to decide how the comps are run.
It has been decided that this years overall comp will have entries taken from the monthly comp winners only.
Some members will be happy and some not.       All i can say is, if you want a chance to win COY or FOY, put your finds in the monthly comps and vote.

As there was no comp a month ago, some rules had to be made quickly to get this comp out of the way.
If members want next years comp to be run differently ,put up some sensible comments on how.
Remember we have over a thousand members,a poll will accept up to 80 entries, around 15 pages to vote on.
