As gold is priced in Us dollars when you hear it on the radio if our dollar goes up then the price of gold  in Aussie dollars per Oz actually falls. For those that have never thought about it. If gold in US dollars is 1000 per Oz and our dollar was worth 50 cents then the price in australian dollars would be 2000AU per Oz. and if our dollar rose from the mid 80cents up to the same as an american dollar then when gold is selling for $1000 US then it would also be $1000 AU. Hope i didn't bore everyone, Rwork

The Australian dollar is now worth around the same as the United States dollar. Gold has just increased in America by US$6.41 while in Australia gold has just dropped $9.92 AU.  The price for one Oz. of gold on the 3rd Nov.2010 is $1358.51AU or for 1 gram it is $43.68 Au.
If you do a specific gravity test gold is around 18 and lead 11.What this means in real life is if you pick up a lead surf sinker marked 1 OZ.then compared it to one made of gold the same size it would weigh around one and a half Oz. plus. There is also a difference in the way gold is weighed compared with lead.Troy OZ.which gold is weighed by is different to the type of ounces the butcher uses on his meat scales. A 10 gram piece of lead is the same weight as a 10gr. nugget of gold. We often find weights marked 1 or 2 pennyweight but they don't weigh the same as any Penny's. There are 20 pennyweights in 1 OZ. troy.  31.1 gr. to the oz.troy.

On 23/2/11 gold was listed at $1395.29 Au or $44.86Au per gram.  Today it was announced on ABC that it had went up to $1500 but when i checked with gold price australia it showed at  $1419.43Au/oz and $45.64Au /gr. I will look up american prices later. Gold in  $US. shows higher at the moment due to high oil prices because of the internal wars in oil producing countries.   Rwork

The Gold price today.  30/3/2011 per oz.in Australian dollars is $1374 and per Gram $44.20
A little on Silver prices. A Kg (Not oz.) is $1153.23 Au or $1.15Gr.
A 1945 florin (Two bob) weighs 11.31 Gr and is 92.5% pure silver, which means  7.5% isn't silver. This gives you a weight of 10.46 Gr of silver at $1.15 Gr. or $12.02 per florin.
Most gold buyers pay around the daily listed price less 15% as the gold isn't pure in its natural form.I imagine the silver buyers would pay less than the listed $1.15 /gram. If you take in a Kg of old coins the silver content is known but if you melted them down then you may have to pay a test fee as well.   Rwork

I normally leave the gold price till the start of the month but with the abc telling all how great the price is i thought i would have a look.
Gold in Au dollars has actually dropped around $14 au from earlier in April. It peaked at $1418 and is now $1404.80 Au. price per gram is $45.17
The price of gold in american dollars is $1500.47.
Our dollar is nearly $1.07 compared with the US.dollar.
This makes the Garrett pinpointers cheap for anyone importing from the US. but makes our gold harder to sell to the overseas buyers.  Rwork

With the collapse of the US dollar around the corner market speculators (Myself) Predict gold and silver to go to outrageous prices. Upwards of $5,000 - $30,000 for gold and up to $1000 for silver.  :o

If gold prices got that high anybody with gold fillings better keep their mouths shut. I guess what you are saying is  hang onto any gold and silver you have around the place. I f silver got to a $1000 an ounce that would mean 3 old two shillings pre 1945 pieces at 11 grms each is worth a $1000 wow! Better  hang onto your old coins!  seeya Ned

The American govt. has voted to borrow more money to pay their repayments. The American dollar has risen which has dropped the value of the Australian dollar against the greenback.(Us. $)  As our dollar drops it makes gold price in Australia go up. On my last post a few days ago (July 27) The Australian price per ounce was
$1469.92 Au.

It is now Au.$1556.18 /ounce or Au $50.03 /gram

An ounce in american dollars is Us.$1664.49

I normally only mention the price once a month because if your not selling then it is only curiosity value.

The Australian price is the one i am more interested in than the Us$ price.  It is at $1722 Au around 1800 hours 9/8/11, but was higher at $1762Au earlier today but once the trade figures came out higher than expected then gold fell a bit.  Usa price is 1750 in Us dollars

Gold is up again since i posted 2 days ago.Now $1739 Per oz. in australian dollars and $55.92 /Gr.
Though gold is up compared to a couple of days ago, this morning a Kg was worth $57022 it is now only worth $55922 Au .A loss of $1100.
Gold is heavy for its size, probably 50%  heavier than lead for the same size. I think specific gravity is 11 for lead and 18 for gold but whatever the figures you can tell when you have a bit the size of a .22 projectile mixed in with a hand full of dirt.
Away with the Bpc  till Monday night hope to bring back something.(Not more horse buckles)

Roughly 13 for lead and 19.3 I think for 99.99% gold, most nuggets are a bit less as they are not that pure.  Gold price is amazing and will go higher,  I think $1000 or even $1500 will be the new $400 for gold,  prices into the $2000 mark will be common.

It is good for Aussie mining and good for us,  even though the stuff is getting harder and harder to find there is now a mush greater chance of being able to make some serious dollars form our hobby if you get onto a good spot.

A few years ago a bloke around Dunnolly was promoting a new detector which was going to be built. He said gold would reach $20/gram. one day so the price of the new machine would soon be repaid.

Gold down $17 au overnight.

In Australian dollars $1700.58 Ounce or  $54.68 Gr.

American price which is what you hear quoted on the radio.  US 1742.08

I read some commentators saying silver will settle back to $23 ounce.  Time will tell.
