The presence of a pirate ship at a beach that your about to hunt is surly a good sign.

Sorry Sambo, seems I missed this post in my travels.

Anyways, the Tiger Snake pic is here .... very strange to see one in mid winter.
This one was so still and well coiled that I was convinced it was a rubber toy snake placed there to 'reserve' the camp spot. I then had that feeling deep in my stomach that I thought it moved. A few stones thrown towards it, no movement at all, so I kept swinging. One eye on the detector screen and the other on the snake. Still not convinced a threw a stick towards it and this time it lifted it's head up, looked at me, and started to move towards some grasses. I quickly moved also, but the other way!
I have seen a few around lately. Not while detecting though.

Flamingo's between Coolgardie and Kunnanulling.
A type of skink I haven't seen before that I woke up chasing a target, turned out to be a brass screw.
A beach West of Esperance.

The skink looks like one of the spiny tailed species, the western spiny-tailed skink is classed as rare/endangered.

Hi John,
I actually broke open the log he was in, it was pretty cold and he didn't want to move anywhere.
Was cosied up with a smaller common skink.
He did eventually move off, I hope he managed to survive.
I regularly come across skinks and geckos while cutting firewood, always try to steer clear of them and make sure they have cover before leaving.
Cheers Norm

Went to the Margret River area last week and saw this girl wandering about.
She has been roaming free for years in the area but seems more curios than before.
Local Ostrich farm escapee, Alpacas don't seem to roam so much.

Spotted some white bird poop under some mangroves..looked up to find this fella having ringtail for lunch.
I'm starting to dislike Kookaburras..Was stalking a big goanna to get a pic when a kooka dived over my shoulder (flapped my ear with it's wing) to squark and harrass my subject. The lizard jumped over a small cliff. The next day I disturbed a small snake which a kooka promptly took up into a tree to be bashed to death and swallowed. Yesterday a large and pretty pinkish skink stopped on a rock to eye me off from where it was plucked by a kooka for a snack.
Not so long ago,I was admiring a small wren as it hopped in and out of a low shrub on a coastal dune. Looked away to admire the view;looked back when I heard some noise to see a kooka bashing the wren on a branch and sending up a cloud of feathers.
Ah well..all part of one of the god's plans.

Ray, that looks like a Powerfull Owl, we have them in our suburb from time to time, not sure if blueyonder was referring to the owl in the photo but was just relating his encounters with Kookaburras as a separate issue.

Thanks Rwork..that does look better! OL56 is correct I think..powerful owl. Kookas are another kettle of fish so to speak. Anybody using Google photos? Just started myself and it is very handy..pics taken on phone appear on pc without having to plug in and transfer..lots of editing features too. Haven't done it yet but I understand if you log into your G/photos account on any smart tv..you can show your pics.. Also create albums to share online. Not sure if this replaces Picassa..cheers..Dave
