LPG Gas Torch
« on: July 23, 2016, 20:10 »
Hi guys, hoping someone can help me.
I'm looking to make myself a furnace to smelt some of the nuggies only a mother could love, (or a prospector ;D ).
Will an lpg torch get hot enough to melt the gold and if so what size would I need, Do I need 2 for a 2 ounce pot?
Any idea how long it will take to melt.
A mate recently paid $500 for one and I've got the bricks for free, so am hoping I can get away with it for around $200.
Any help much appreciated
Cheers
Norm

Thanks Peter,
I want to turn the nuggies into ingots, then forward them on for sale.
Some have ironstone and quartz attached.
Cheers

I think you would have a Bunnings at Kal, they would be cheaper than Reece plumbing. I have a combo of lpg and oxy which works ok. Bottle rental is dear for the oxy.  If you make little bars, number them and keep a small drill sample out of each. The buyer will know why. My brother is a plumber and has equipped the other utes with throw away bottles to save rent costs.

There is a mob on "Face Book" called "Leonora Gold Talk" they do Courses on smelting and refining  gold , could pay to look them up as they are "local" .
