G'day Gary ,

in regards to the carrot , I would email Garrett in the U.S , you might be lucky & the might come to the party on another .....?

Angermanagement ( Mark ) may be able to fix it , he's on the inner Northside .

Clegy might have a Mars one left at damaged packaging price, works very well, loud and a single button, if you want 2 buttons and more adjustments have o look at the Deteknick pin pointer, I have both as my Garrett had exactly the same symptoms as yours, I know longer will throw the big bucks when it is not necessary to do so, I have both the above and so far so good, time will tell.......cheers Colin.

Happy to have a look.  Seeing a good few Carrots fail but yet to get my hands on one.

Have a old Black Garrett that may be able to get you out of trouble...   Or a Used X-pointer - USB rechargable...

Will be out and about on the Weekend... But PM me if you are interested..

I have had 2 American carrot repairs go through with no problem or receipts.
The hardware has the serial numbers on it.
When my pointer died 2 months out of warranty they still sent back a shiny new one. Just had the cap from the old one. So out of warranty now but still a brand new beeper.
 I'm happy with that.

Also, I want to add that the customer service and communication from them was excellent.

They always give a New Replacement as they are Consumables..   Garrett never fix, it has and always will be a replacement...

Great while under warranty, but once that has finished...  Bin it...

With all the carrots that have had problems......what was the actual problem with it......?
And how old was it when it started to play up.......?

Just trying to see if it's a common fault they all have.......or a variety of different problems......that's all.....

Ps....instead of binning them when dead and out of warranty......maybe they can all be given to one person instead who can salvage parts to repair others......?

I have been told of a couple of faults... But having not seen first hand = No Comment

If like usual... The faults will be common and you could have 2 dead units with all the same problem; and parts not available...

I learnt about the first Garrett Pro Pointers...  And then fixed way to many...  Not all 100%....     But not worth the time or effort as they were never meant to be fixed...  Profind 25 is another that was never ment to be serviced...

Some of teh others are easy to maintain/repair and this is a BIG plus in my books...

I don't know of the others but mine just died , just like that ! i was using it 1 day & next day ( still on the field ) it beeped to start up but would not find a target even if i ran in along it . As for repairing i would imagine Garrett kept it or binned  it , Gazza .

Seems as per usual the quality control is a bit hit and miss with the Garretts, something I thought might have been past history with two new units.  Had my Carrot for a good while now with no issues (touch wood), and it doesn't get an easy life either.

They should really rethink how they produce pinpointers as "consumable" items, take a look at the new XP MI-6 pinpointer - every part is user replaceable.

Have a look at the pinpointer breakdown diagram in the linked PDF instructions (scroll down for English version).

what was going wrong with the ones you've repaired......?
was it component failure......or failure from shock/vibration from normal use.......?
dry joints......or more complex issues....?

A batch issue I think with some basic design issues that got highlighted...   Coil epoxy and wiring....

But when they get mass-produced in China and even with tight QC...  Only need a poor component to cause issues.  But it does not matter as they always just replaced them AND with a warehouse full -  bit hard and un economical to do a recall.

The new ones seem to be failing in many different ways; but all being replaced quickly.  So without getting hands on a few... A hard call as to what if any cause.

yep.....that all makes sense........
and its cheaper for them to replace than repair.....cos i reckon they would only cost a few dollars each to make....
but we are paying up to 50 times the cost of manufacture.......so it makes it feasible to replace.....how many can you go through within the warranty period.....?
