Scam warning
« on: May 01, 2017, 19:21 »
Howdy all,
This was posted in a couple of face book pages. Can't verify it but thought I would put it up .
!!!SCAM WARNING!!!
There is yet another scam involving Minelab metal detectors being advertised online.
At least one person I know has lost over $5000.
A police report has been submitted and is currently being investigated.
The advertisement is on the tradingpost.com.au website, for a Minelab GPZ 7000 detector listed for $5500.
The scammer sent through a photo of the serial number.
The serial number was sent to Minelab's support email - service@minelab.com.au, and the serial number was confirmed by Minelab as genuine, and that the unit was still under warranty until the 12/9/18.
Therefore, a unit with this serial number would have to have been purchased new on the 12/9/15.
The scammer claimed it was purchased new in Ballarat.
The scammer also provided a photo of "their" Queensland drivers licence.
The "buyer" checked that the account name provided by the scammer matched the account name at the branch, prior to
depositing the money, which it did.
The ad is STILL currently listed on the trading post site.
This is despite several emails and reports submitted to the Trading Post, via both their "report an Ad" link and via email directly, stating that this is a scam.
Minelab was also notified that this serial number is being used in a scam three weeks ago, but have failed to reply to date.
Remember, if it looks too good to be true, its a scam.
Only ever pick up in person, never deposit money into someones account.
If you are a victim of this same scam, let me know and I'll pass on your details.
Hope this helps someone.

One of our forum and a Bpc member here purchased an Ounce of gold below cost on Ebay. It never arrived and he was lucky that Paypal repaid his money. The same Ebay seller sold about 10 Oz. A tracking number that was supplied to some was only for an empty registered mail envolope.
A bloke i know purchased two fake Mlb 5000. He was lucky to get his money back also.

I saw that Ebay will no longer offer protection for at least some metal detector sales through their site. Mostly 5000s as far as I can tell.
