PinPointer Protection
« on: October 11, 2017, 23:26 »
Does anyone know if I was to apply an acrylic or like substance to the business end of a pinpointer, would it affect the sensitivity?  I have thought of using a coating of araldyte.
Cheers
David

So long as it does not have a metal/mineral component.

Most just use heat shrink, but if used correctly !  Where is the need, unless you use it in lots of mud..

I can remember an old post where one of the members put a condom on his pointer.
(is that a pinpointer in your pocket or are you just glad to see me) :)

This is what i use , not sure if you can get it anymore.
works fine , as long as your not using the pointer as a digger.
don't think i lose any depth.

Cheers! I don't use the pointer as a digger, I use a digger or a screwdriver for that :)

It won't hurt the sensativity or searching mode at all, unless you put swathes of it on. Go for it.

Rubber Chair stop works a treat on my TRX and Land or sea.
Had it on the trx for two years.

For the MI6 I use the condom style covers that are purpose built.

The Nocta pinpointer comes with two plastic covers, why not use them?  I seldom use the ones that came with mine, and have had no problems with it.

I give my probe a pretty good work-out...But I can positively say that the Garrett is one fantastic accessory!...This is how I "look after" mine....Gaffa Tape over the speaker and switch gives it a good element of weather resistance (it occasionally probes in mud, deeper than the speaker line)...the tape gets changed periodically as the switch wears through...I've found a small piece of plastic between the switch and gaffa makes for easier replacement ...The tip of the probe has worn down over the years, and so I've attached a small section of high pressure water hose which is better/ more durable than the plastic of the original ....it is not glued on, but literally wedged over the end...It can be removed if necessary, but it does not interfere with the signal, and helps protect the tip from further wear
