I said I would write a review for the Sunray Pro Golds on the Sovereign but instead of starting a new thread, I thought it might be good to put my review of my Sunray Pro Golds here, and build on the awesome work and pictures already supplied by Coin Ranger.

Let me just start off by saying that I don't like wearing headphones, they get hot, I turn them up so loud to hear those whisper signals that anything shallow screams at me in so many decibels I should worry that I may not hear again, and the cord finds it way under my foot so that I get up to leave I get yanked back like a dog that's reached the end of its chain. Admittedly I have only used Minelabs recommended headphones on my machine before the RPG and not any high end phones before, (though I am nonplussed why Minelab recommend Koss when they don't even have volume controls on their Headphones for their UR30 model)

At least those things used to happen before I got my Sunray Pro Golds. Sunray have made a quality product. The individual volume adjustments are gradual/ incremental- so if you bump them they don't change easily like most free wheeling volume controls. The coil is curvy and long and always retracts even when stretched- at least so far in my use. The ear muffs are comfortable, because they are real leather not vinyl, and the surface blast limiter saves my ears from being ruined by cans, when I'm listening for those quiet deeper signals.

Minelab state that the sovereign works best with headphones that are 32 ohms, so how do the Sunray Pro Golds work at 150 ohm- in a word Fantastic. The only thing that I've found from using these phones is improved battery life over running without headphones.

What about tones? crisp, clear and distinct. The best thing that I have got over using headphones with my machine is ability to size targets more accurately. If you are out in the field for anytime you would know how useful this is in detecting.

Now I'm a tone hunter, no fancy screen just my experience and trust that the detector is always going to sing the same tune.  So I need a pair of phones that accurately depict what the detector is seeing/ singing. The Sunray Pro's are good in this regard their is a slight change in tones when using them compared to the detectors speaker but it is easy to get used to and before long I found myself preferring it.

End of Part 1- More to Follow

Hi
I thought that the Grey Ghosts.Pro Golds and all the top end headphones used the same speakers and cans.
I have built my own headphones and also used the same speakers and cans but I used high end cable, connectors , switches and a cermet potentiometer.
If I have permission from a mod I can post picks and details of the parts I used for the DIY high end headphones.
You would be surprised how easy they are to make.

If hard to find try "Killer B Wasp" they are the same headphones with a different name and they will both work on an F4.
Got mine from Colonial Metal Detectors.
